First snow of 2016 obstructs road traffic in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 5 January /MOLDPRES/-The deputy head of the “Exdrupo” municipal enterprise, Stefan Radu today said the first snowfall of 2016 had obstructed the road traffic in Chisinau. Nevertheless, authorities keep the situation under control.
Radu said roads in Chisinau had been covered by over 500 cubic meters of non-slip materials over the last night and until now. Moreover, 25 special vehicles removed snow from streets and sidewalks.
“Road workers take efforts to remove snow from the streets inaccessible to special vehicles due to irregularly parked cars,” Radu said.
According to a press release by Chisinau mayoralty, public transportation follows the timetable of a usual working day. Therefore, 251 trolleybuses and 100 buses had been put into service this morning.
Emergency doctors said two homeless people with general hypothermia had been hospitalized at the Emergency Medicine Institute last night.
The press officer of Chisinau’s Police Department, Natalia Stati said “the nonobservance of traffic rules during bad weather conditions caused ten car accidents in Chisinau from 18:00 till 7:00. Fortunately, nobody had suffered”.
The State Hydro-Meteorological Service issued yellow code of snow and sleet, with isolate snowdrifts and blizzard, available until today. The minimum air-temperature will oscillate between -3 and -11 degrees Celsius and the maximum air-temperature will vary between 0 and -3 degrees Celsius on 6 January.
