Moldovan acting PM, emergency management heads discuss bad weather risks, measures

Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/-Acting Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega on 6 January summoned a meeting of the heads in charge of managing emergency situations, in order to assess potential risks related to a bad weather warning in Moldova next days, issued by the State Hydro-Meteorological Service, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.
According to the State Hydro-Meteorological Service, heavy precipitation, predominantly snowfall and sleet will fall across Moldova’s central and southern districts on 6 January in the evening and in the next days as well. Meteorologists also forecast isolate ice fog, glazed frost and icy roads. The wind speed will increase up to 20 m/s on 7 January. As a result, the State Hydro-Meteorological Service issued yellow code for bad weather conditions.
Acting Transports and Road Infrastructure Minister Iurie Chirinciuc said the State Road Administration was ready to intervene promptly in case of necessity. Thus, a number of 480 special vehicles and 165 equipment units are prepared to start snow-clearing works and more than 50 thousand tons of anti-slipping material are ready to be spread. Moreover, the Interior Ministry’s specialized services monitor the road traffic with the help of 40 installed cameras, which continuously send information to the Dispatcher of the Operating Emergency Management Centre. Additionally, the Transports and Road Infrastructure Ministry had prepared 155 traction vehicles, 130 generators and 321 tents.
During the meeting, Brega required that the Health Ministry provide population with appropriate medical aid in all the Moldovan hospitals, as well as ensure the reserve of expendable supplies. At the suggestion of the acting prime minister, the Education Ministry will issue a circular letter asking managers of educational institutions to avoid saving money on heat and ensure the appropriate heating of school buildings, in order to prevent pupils from getting ill when returning from vacation. Government authorities shall be promptly informed on the evolution of the situation. The acting prime minister asked the Operating Emergency Management Centre to intervene in case of necessity. Subordinated forces and means shall also me mobilised to this effect.
