Chisinau, 8 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will continue discussions on the formation of a parliamentary majority. PLDM MP Iurie Tap made statements to this effect after the formation's National Political Council on 8 January.
The lawmaker said PLDM opted for the creation of a parliamentary majority, based on the enforcement of systemic and sustainable reforms.
''Not all our colleagues could be present at the meeting today; therefore, an enlarged meeting of the party's Central Bureau took place, during which the present situation in Moldova was discussed. We speak out for pressing ahead with discussions on the creation of a parliamentary majority, due to be based on reforms' implementation. The debates will continue already based on the decision by the National Political Council from 13 December 2015,'' Iurie Tap said.
It is worth mentioning that, at the last talks between the pro-European parties, no progress was made, as both PLDM and the Democratic Party (PDM) claimed the right to put forward a candidate for the office of prime minister.
After the abovementioned negotiations, PDM leader Marian Lupu said that ''he is empowered to speak on behalf of 35 lawmakers, which means more than one third. From all the points of view, PDM is put in the position to take over the office of prime minister.''
The leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Mihai Ghimpu, has earlier said that ''PL insists on a majority with the participation of PLDM, PDM, PL and the Leanca group, doing its utmost for the snap polls to be avoided.''
Following a 4 January failed attempt of swearing in office of the Sturza government, President Nicolae Timofti started consultations with PLDM, PL, European Party of Moldova (PPEM) and the Social Democratic Platform, for the nomination of a new candidate for the office of prime minister.
Under a ruling by the Constitutional Court, if a cabinet is not sworn in office till 29 January, the Moldovan parliament will be dissolved and snap elections will be called.
