Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/-Access roads in 36 settlements from southern Cantemir, Taraclia, Stefan Voda, Causeni and Cahul districts, as well as in the Territorial Administrative Unit (UTA) of Gagauzia, are blocked because of the bad weather.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service, rescue teams and firemen helped unblock 170 vehicles over the past 24 hours, rescuing more than 400 people from freezing.

According to the above-mentioned service, rescuing operations were mainly held in Cahul, Causeni, Stefan Voda, Cantemir and Taraclia districts. Paramedics of the Romanian SMURD rescue service were also involved in some of them.

Dozens of passengers, who got stuck in the buses circulating on the roads of Cahul, Taraclia and Cimislia districts, were also rescued by the teams of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service. Rescuers were also called by the 903 service to unblock more ambulances trapped in the snow while trying to offer medical aid.

Because of the bad weather, the Soroca-Tekinovka river crossing point was also closed today. It will resume its activity once the weather gets better.

Authorities continue to recommend that citizens avoid travelling to Ukraine or transiting it, as the situation on more national and international roads is unclear due to bad weather conditions.
