European Parliament backs Moldovan government in implementing reforms

Chisinau, 10 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with Rapporteur of the European Parliament for the Association Agreement with Moldova Petras Austrevicius, on a fact-collecting visit to Chisinau, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The two officials discussed the cabinet’s priorities in terms of carrying out Moldova’s European agenda and exchanged opinions on the Moldova-EU cooperation goals on the next period.
At the meeting, Pavel Filip stressed that the government’s work was aimed at regaining the confidence of the development partners and citizens, resuming a high tempo of Moldova’s reformation. The prime minister reconfirmed openness for solving the most pressing problems of the people. “The government I lead is fully aware of the difficult situation in which it took over the mandate. At the same time, we are determined to be the government which takes Moldova out of the crisis. In this respect, the support of the European Parliament matters a lot for us,” Pavel Filip said.
The prime minister thanked for the backing of MEPs within debates on the swearing in office of the new Moldovan cabinet at the European Parliament.
Pavel Filip reiterated that the maintenance of Moldova’s European integration was the priority number one of the government, and the enforcement of the Association Agreement is in the focus of the governmental team. In this context, the prime minister specified that the participants in a meeting of the Governmental Commission for European Integration had taken a decision on removing the debts in terms of carrying out the action plan on implementing the Association Agreement in a one-month term.
The prime minister also said the cabinet was aware of the concerns set forth by MEPs in the Resolution on the implementation of the Association Agreement. Filip gave assurances that the government would undertake all the needed measures to remove them.
For his part, Petras Austrevicius said that Moldova had a single future, a European one. Yet, the country must carry out reforms due to lead to changes for the country, Austrevicius stressed. “We expect, as concretely and as soon as possible, results on reforms and sectors dealing with clearing up the bank fraud, fighting corruption and depoliticizing the law-enforcement institutions,” the European official said.
The European Parliament’s rapporteur also said the Moldovan cabinet was ambitious and was to act quickly to provide concrete results, which will bring economic support for Moldova.
“The European Union sees a partner in Moldova, just as Moldova is a partner for EU, and partners speak among them openly and sincerely. We are open for cooperation with Moldova,” Petras Austrevicius added.
