Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today had a phone conversation with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius. The two officials exchanged opinions on the Moldova-EU relations' perspectives, social and political situation in the Moldova and priority goals of the new Moldovan government, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s communication and media relations service has reported.
Linkevicius reiterated his country’s willingness to further back Moldova in carrying out the European agenda of reforms, especially, noting that the earlier provided support had yielded positive results, such as: abolition of the visa regime and signing of the Association Agreement and Free Trade Agreement.
The Lithuanian official encouraged the Moldovan authorities to persevere in order to implement the economic and structural reforms, particularly, in justice, fighting corruption and improving the situation in financial and banking sector. He pointed out that the implementation of the needed reforms would contribute both to stabilizing the social and political situation in the country and achieving the strategic goals. In this context, the Lithuanian official said that, in the long run, the European support would depend on the concrete results the Moldovan government would prove. At the same time, Linkevicius highlighted that the snap polls would not be a proper solution to Moldova in the present difficult situation.
For his part, Andrei Galbur stressed the new government’s firm decision to prove, through concrete actions, its will to continue the country’s European integration and re-launch the structural reforms seen in the Association Agreement with EU. He thanked for the support provided to Moldova by backing the European integration and implementing development assistance projects.
