Moldovan foreign minister meets top EU official

Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today met High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, on the sidelines of the Security Conference, held in Munich, Germany, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
The two officials exchanged opinions on topical issues on the Moldova-EU relations agenda. Galbur and Mogherini paid special attention to the march of implementation of the reforms seen in the Association Agreement, Moldovan cabinet’s priorities for the immediately next period, measures due to be taken to overcome the difficulties the society of Moldova had been facing on the last period.
The EU high representative encouraged the Moldovan authorities to enhance the tempo of the reforms on the European agenda, in order to recover delays in enforcing the Association Agreement, in particular, in terms of fighting corruption, justice system reform, improving the situation in the financial and banking system, resuming the dialogue with the International Monetary Fund. Federica Mogherini stressed that the meeting of the Moldova – EU Association Council, due in next march, would represent a proper occasion to carry out a general assessment of the level of implementation of the goals set in the Association Agreement.
For his part, the head of the Moldovan diplomacy highlighted the firm determination of the new government to revive the reforms process, in order to entirely fulfill the European agenda, as well as to undertake, in a direct dialogue with the civil society and foreign development partners, the needed measures for settling the urgent problems Moldova was confronting with. In this respect, Minister Andrei Galbur thanked for the support provided Moldova by EU to promote reforms and overcome the difficulties the country was facing.
