Moldovan parliament, cabinet discuss legislative priorities for spring session at joint meeting

Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - The leadership bodies of the Moldovan parliament and government have discussed legislative priorities of the spring session at a joint meeting, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The goal of the meeting, chaired by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip, regarded the synchronization of the actions of the parliament and cabinet, to carry out the legislative programme on fulfilling the transposition commitments, taken within the Association Agreement between Moldova and EU, as well as the government’s priorities for the current session.
According to Speaker Andrian Candu, 24 out of all the 42 priority drafts dealt with the implementation of the Association Agreement, and another 18 related to the improvement of important sectors, meant to bring well-being to citizens, ensure the state’s security, including the political and economic stability. Among them, there are a string of commitments on the implementation of which Moldova’s future cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, as well as the providing of a loan on behalf of Romania depends. Thus, the legislative drafts on the justice reform, “integrity package”, the financial, banking and energy sectors will be considered at the first parliament meetings.
Both the parliament speaker and the prime minister urged the leadership of the standing commissions and the cabinet members to communicate more efficiently and cooperate actively to carry out the set priorities as quickly as possible.
At same time, the participants in the meeting approved the periodical holding of such joint meetings, with the next one scheduled for mid-March 2015.
“We believe that such a communication is quite necessary, in order to overcome the debts and everything that marked the latest period of instability, in the absence of the government and cooperation between the cabinet and parliament,” Andrian Candu said.
For his part, Prime Minister Pavel Filip gave assurances that the government was fully aware of the period Moldova was going through now and was focused on undertaking urgent measures, in line with this situation. “Urgent measures will follow to overcome this crisis; in parallel, we focus on the priorities contained in the government’s action programme,” the prime minister added.
The meeting’s agenda also included subjects on optimizing the parliamentary control mechanisms.
