Moldovan premier chairs meeting of National Extraordinary Commission for Public health

Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/-In the context of the continuously intensifying influenza diseases throughout Moldova, Prime Minister Pavel Filip chaired a meeting of the National Extraordinary Commission for Public health at the government today. The officials analyzed the epidemiological situation, coming up with solutions that could possibly help overcome the critical influenza situation in the nearest time possible, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime minister said urgent measures had to be taken to avoid exceeding the pandemic threshold of acute respiratory diseases. “The government has the duty to find the necessary resources to face the challenges,” Filip said.
During the meeting, officials in charge unveiled information on the condition of influenza affected patients, treatment conditions, as well as the degree of protection and monitoring needed to diminish the influenza situation in schools and kindergartens especially.
According to Deputy Health Minister Aliona Serbulenco, there are currently 311 cases of influenza recorded in Moldova, including 271 hospitalized people. Meanwhile, the deputy minister noted that all public medical institutions are provided with necessary medicines for treatment for acute respiratory infections. In addition, preschool and school institutions have the medical means to check the health of students before classes, or give them medical help if necessary .Serbulenco assured that in order to replenish the necessary stocks of influenza medicines, the Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices held an auction for two types of viral preparations, while around 150 000 people received influenza vaccines.
In this context, Filip asked responsible institutions to strictly monitor the restocking of antiviral and immunity medicines, as well as to inform citizens of influenza prophylaxis measures.
