Moldovan, Russian officials discuss relevant issues

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/-Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan met Russian Special Representative for Transnistrian Conflict Settlement Sergey Gubarev on 15 February, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

The officials made a brief review of the developments in the Transnistrian file and discussed aspects of the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue, as well as prospects of progress in the negotiation process.

In the context, the deputy prime minister informed the Russian diplomat about the government’s short- and medium-term priorities and commitments, insisting on the need to boost the negotiation process, foster the activity of sectoral working groups to strengthen confidence building measures and all dialogue platforms. Also, he referred to the importance of continuing the five-plus-two negotiations without preconditions, with efforts aimed at identifying a viable and comprehensive solution to the Transnistrian conflict.

The sides also discussed the need to maintain stability in the Security Zone, free movement problem and human rights observance in the region, as well as the importance of unlocking the access of farmers from Dubasari district to farmlands placed beyond Camenca-Tiraspol highway, who were refused the right to property.

Another topic was related to perspective of organizing a visit by mediators and observers to Chisinau and Tiraspol in the near future.

The Russian diplomat gave assurances that, during his visit to Tiraspol, he would approach the problems set by the deputy premier and would send positive signals, in order to find a solution favourable to interests of residents from both banks of Dniester. At the same time, Gubarev added that he opted for constructive approaches and relied on efficient cooperation.
