Moldovan deputy premier meets top U.S. officers

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan on 15 February received a delegation made up of top U .S. officers, on a fact-collecting visit to Moldova and countries of the region, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
The visit’s goal is get information on the degree of Moldova’s adaptation to the new security conditions, including ways and instruments used to prevent dangers and threats to national, zone and regional security, in the context of the Transnistrian conflict and its consequences.
At the meeting, Gheorghe Balan referred to the Transnistrian problem, origin and character of the conflict on the Dniester, its negative impact on the residents from both bank. At the same time, he highlighted the main risk factors and threats to Moldova’s security. The deputy prime minister emphasized Moldova’s efforts, backed by its foreign partners, including the USA, as well as by other participants in the negotiating process, in order to identify a viable solution to the Transnistrian problem, due to see a special legal status for this region of Moldova, by observing the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting ended with a session of questions and answers.
