German OSCE Chairmanship to encourage actions aimed at settling Transnistrian conflict

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/-Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today met Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s communication and media relations service has reported.

The sides exchanged opinions on the current stage and prospects for the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. Minister Galbur welcomed the actions taken by the OSCE chairmanship and voiced hope that they would contribute to resuming the five-plus-two talks, by holding a new round of negotiations in the near future, boosting the political dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol in the one-plus-one format, as well as through bolstering the activity of sectoral confidence building working groups.

For his part, the German diplomat confirmed the commitment of the OSCE chairmanship-in-office to encourage the actions taken by the actors involved in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, in order to resume the negotiations and achieve the set goals.

The sides stressed the existence of friendly prerequisites to achieve real progress in the negotiation process, in terms of solving pressing problems faced by the people from both banks of Dniester, as well as to boost the efforts on identifying a sustainable political solution to the Transnistrian conflict, by observing the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova, via offering a special status to the Transnistrian region.
