Deputy premier meets UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today had a meeting with United Nations Resident Coordinator in Moldova, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova Dafina Gherceva, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
In the beginning of the meeting, Dafina Gherceva offered congratulations to Gheorghe Balan on his appointment to office. She voiced confidence that the deputy prime minister for reintegration would manage to successfully implement the cabinet’s policies in the reintegration sector.
The dialogue was focused on the present situation in the negotiating process, developments recorded, aspects of the Chisinau-Tiraspol dialogue, as well as prospects for the advancement of the talks.
The deputy prime minister pointed out the priorities of the present government in enforcing the goal of Transnistrian settlement. Balan stressed that all efforts would be directed to resume the five-plus-two negotiations, as well to bolster the other platforms of dialogue, especially by boosting the activity within the sectoral working groups, so that the residents feel the impact of their work.
At the same time, the deputy prime minister highlighted the need to strengthen the capacities of the bureau for reintegration, given that the objective of Moldova’s reintegration was a priority one in the government’s action programme. Gheorghe Balan also said this desideratum was backed at the level of the government’s leadership. In context, Dafina Gherceva expressed willingness to provide the needed support to consolidate the Bureau’s capabilities to support initiatives of rapprochement between residents from both banks of Dniester.
The deputy prime minister thanked Dafina Gherceva for the positive messages promoted, assistance provided within UN programmes and prodigious cooperation to promote confidence building projects.
