Moldovan deputy PM meets World Bank experts

Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today met a group of World Bank experts, led by Country Manager for Moldova Alex Kremer, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
The WB official was accompanied by Senior Social Scientist with Europe and Central Asia Sustainable Development Department Nina Bhatt, the project manager for the Support through Knowledge Confidence Building programme, Stavros George Stavrou, as well as by other representatives of the Bank.
In the beginning of the meeting, Alexander Kremer welcomed the swearing in office of the new government and congratulated the deputy prime minister on his appointment to post. The WB official made a retrospective of the activities within the Support through Knowledge programme, stressing that both sides had appreciated the experience provided by experts at workshops.
The sides exchange opinions on the proposals of projects due to be implemented in settlements from both banks of Dniester, in the fields of education, and entrepreneurship for young people, transport, environment, eco-agro tourism, etc. The aforementioned projects will be aimed at improving local infrastructure, promoting technically programmes or actions of community development and regional partnership.
The deputy prime minister highlighted the importance of extending the assistance projects, similar to those that are already being successfully implemented on the right bank of Dniester, to settlements from the Security Zone and the Transnistrian region, in diverse sectors, such as road infrastructure, quality medical services, environmental protection, tourism and rural development.
In the end, Gheorghe Balan thanked the World Bank representatives for the work carried out for the benefit of the residents from both banks of Dniester and encouraged the development of cooperation in the long run.
