Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today had discussions with Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, at an official dinner held at Vila Lac 1 from Bucharest, the presidential press service has reported.
On this occasion, the head of state thanked for the unconditional and solid support provided by the Romanian government to Moldova’s European integration process and implementing bilateral energy and infrastructure projects. Timofti highlighted the need to maintain an ascendant trend of the Moldovan-Romanian bilateral relations.
For his part, Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos informed President Timofti on the results of his visit to Brussels concerning Moldova. Ciolos said the decision to put certain conditions to the Moldovan government in exchange of disbursing the first installment of a 150-million-euros-worth loan does not mean lack of trust, but rather a string of reforms expected by the Moldovan citizens, as well as by Moldova’s foreign partners.
In context, Prime Minister Ciolos said “Romania continues acting as Moldova’s advocate at the European Union.”
The two sides tackled the need to carry out the joint energy projects, referring to the continuation of the works for the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline, in line with European quality standards, as well as the improvement of the business environment in Moldova, making it attractive to Romanian and foreign investors.
Also, the officials approached the subject of common cultural, historical and linguistic identity, as an extra argument for backing Moldova’s rapprochement with the European Union.
