Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet today approved a draft law supplementing the Moldovan Constitution and providing for the constitutional regulation of the ombudsman's activity, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.
The draft law provides for a new chapter in the Constitution, that regulates the status and role of the ombudsman, as well as his appointment and dismissal method by the parliament. The new provisions will also regulate the function, mission, immunities, guarantees and also aspects related to ombudsman’s independence and incompatibility with other positions.
The government’s decision to approve the draft law supplementing the Moldovan Constitution is meant to adjust the national legislation to the international one, based on the recommendations of Venice Commission, in order to ensure the ombudsman’s independence.
