Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet, at a today’s meeting, approved a package of decisions providing for insuring the needed instruments for implementing the national single emergency service 112. The decision was taken after, at a previous government meeting held one week ago, Prime Minister Pavel Filip had demanded the speeding up of the implementation of this service, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
‘’I am sure that, had the 112 service worked, the Bastovoi case would not have taken place. The implementation of the single emergency number is a sign of enhancement of the country’s level of civilization,’’ the prime minister said.
The use of specialised automated information systems and a simultaneous involvement of more specialized emergency services will reduce the time of examining the call, will enhance the operability of a qualitative reacting to emergencies, which will diminish the human and material damages in crisis situations. All the calls will be free of charge for users, both in the fixed and the mobile telephony networks.
An advantage is also the fact that it will be easier for people to use a single number, which is easy to remember and may be called in any unexpected situation, no matter the place where they are.
Following the signing of a memorandum between the Information Technology and Communications Ministry and the partners from Sweden, Nordic Investment Bank, a feasibility study was carried out for creating and enforcing a national single service for emergency calls 112 in Moldova. At the same time, taking into account the reorganization of the emergency service on the basis of the new concept, the Finance Ministry deems as necessary to assess and optimize the present emergency services by directing money to the service that is proposed to be created.
The use of the single European number for calling emergency services 112 will allow properly and efficiently organizing the emergency services all over Moldova, in line with the requirements of the European Union. Presently, this service is used in all European Union member states.
