Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today had a meeting with representatives of the Education Ministry (ME) of Moldova and the headmasters of the Latin-script schools from the Transnistrian region, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

The participants in the meeting discussed the work of the aforementioned schools from the Transnistrian region, problems they are facing, pressures exerted on these schools by Tiraspol-based structures. The sides also tackled organisational issues, including the financial backing of schools and their endowment with all needed things.

The deputy prime minister gave assurances that the government would further make efforts to support the Moldova-run Latin-script schools from the Transnistrian region and non-allowing the disturbance of the work of these institutions. Gheorghe Balan reiterated that the problems faced by the Moldova- run schools from the region represented a permanent concern of the Moldovan authorities and were on the agenda of all the formats of consultations and negotiations on Transnistrian settlement. In this context, the participants in the meeting stressed that the pressures exerted on the schools were strictly political and demanded that Tiraspol abstains from such unilateral counterproductive actions.
