PM says government's goal completion of Moldova's monitoring by PACE

Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met Head of the Council of Europe(CoE) Office in Chisinau Jose-Luis Herrero. The officials discussed the present stage of the Moldova-Council of Europe relations, as well as aspects on the evolution of the partnership in the long run, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The prime minister appreciated a lot CoE’s role in the modernisation and democratization of Moldova. “The basic goal of our country in the cooperation with the Council of Europe, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is the completion of Moldova’s monitoring both by PACE and the CoE Congress of Local and Regional Authorities,” Pavel Filip said.
The prime minister gave assurances that the Moldovan cabinet was determined to take concrete and prompt measures to promote the needed reforms and achieve the set objectives, with the stabilization of the financial and banking system and reform of the judicial system being the priority ones.
For his part, Jose-Luis Herrero confirmed the Council of Europe’s openness for a constructive dialogue and willingness to provide the necessary expertise in the process Moldovan legislation’s approximation to the European standards.
In the end of the meeting, the sides tackled the issue of a monitoring visit by the PACE co-rapporteurs for Moldova, scheduled for 22-23 February, as well as the cooperation in the national minorities’ protection field.
