Moldovan deputy premier meets representative of UN Children's Fund

Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today received Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Moldova Nune Mangasaryan, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.   

Mrs Mangasaryan informed the deputy prime minister on UNICEF’s work in Moldova. In particular, she referred to implementation of projects on strengthening trust between the two banks of Dniester, aimed at improving the medical assistance, situations concerning the health of children and women, services in the perinatal and immunisation system, etc. The UN official also highlighted the contribution of this international organisation to diminishing the infant mortality and significant improving of the indexes in terms of children’s malnutrition.  

In this context, Balan thanked for the constant support provided to Moldova by UNICEF. He noted that the government had the commitment and obligation to ensure protection of the fundamental rights of the residents from the Transnistrian region, including by extending national programmes and the ones financed by developments partners in the eastern districts of Moldova. At the same time, the deputy prime minister highlighted the need to depoliticize the technical aspects, speaking out for social and humanitarian approaches, and expressed willingness to develop an efficient cooperation to this end.

In the end of the meeting, Nune Mangasaryan thanked for the dialogue and wished Gheorghe Balan success on his appointment to the office of deputy prime minister in charge of Moldova’s reintegration issues.
