Moldova, International Labour Organisation sign new country programme

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/- The World Day of Social Justice was celebrated in Chisinau today. Authorities signed a new cooperation agreement between Moldova and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) during the event, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.

The document negotiated by the Moldovan government and social dialogue partners counts as the forth cooperation agreement between Moldova and ILO.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega said Moldova wanted to build a society based on the European social model. “The development of human resources and ensuring equal chances for everyone is primordial. The government will take efforts to link the economic growth to social justice. A decent employment and productive jobs are the main tools to alleviate poverty, promote social inclusions, as provided in the government’s action programme,” Brega said.

The deputy prime minister touched upon the importance of Moldova’s cooperation with its development partners, especially now when it has joined the international agenda of Sustainable Development Goals. “We want and fully commit to achieve these goals at the country-level for better life standards of each citizen,” Brega concluded.

Attending the event were government officials, development partners and representatives of the civil society. The participants discussed aspects related to the Moldovan government’s cooperation with ILO, and namely, social inclusion, occupation policies, informal economy and ways to improve labour legislation.

The United Nations Organisation (UN) has decided to observe the World Day of Social Justice on 20 February in 2007. The event is for the first time marked in Moldova, at the initiative of the government, UN and ILO.
