Bulgarian road carriers block customs checkpoint at border with Greece

Chisinau, 19 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) informs the Moldovan citizens intending to travel to/across Greece that, in the wake of protests by Greek farmers, the Promahonas customs checkpoint (at the border with Bulgaria) was blocked by Bulgarian carriers too. As a result, a huge about 25-30-km-long traffic jam of lorries appeared on the Greek side, the MAEIE information and media communication service has reported.    

Taking into account that the Bulgarian Association of Road Carriers threatens with blocking all the border checkpoints between Bulgaria and Greece, all Moldovan citizens who intend to travel to Greece are recommended to avoid the Bulgarian-Greek border checkpoints, and use the border checkpoints with Macedonia.

The Kupi customs checkpoint is opened exclusively for passenger cars and busses at the border with Turkey.

The road traffic continues to be disturbed/blocked on the following national roads, highways and regions:

1. The Tempi Valley, Larissa region (Athens-Thessaloniki route), blocked for an indefinite period.

2. The Nikea-Thessalia crossroad (Athens-Thessaloniki route), blocked for an indefinite period.

3. The Kerdvllia region, Egnatia Road, blocked for an indefinite period.  

4. The Eleonas, Thiva and Kastro region (Athens-Thessaloniki route) blocked for an indefinite period.

5. The Bralos region (Athens-Lamia route) blocked for an indefinite period.

6. The Corinth Canal region (Athens-Corinth route) blocked for an indefinite period.

7. The Mikrothives zone (Athens-Thessaloniki route) blocked for an indefinite period.

8. The Kefalovrysos - Aitoloakarnania region, (Antirio – Ioannina route) blocked for an indefinite period.

9. Difficulties may be faced in the Thessaloniki region in the direction of Athens for short periods of time.

10. The Athens-Lamia national road (between the 20 and 30 km) blocked for an indefinite period.

11. The Athens-Koropi national road (route Athens - towards the Venizelos International Airport of Athens) blocked starting from 17 February 2016.
