Nine candidates apply for position of National Bank of Moldova governor

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/-New candidates applied for the position of governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM). Eight of them are employees, specialists, founders or partners of some American, Israeli, Russian, Italian, and Austrian and Luxembourgish companies.
Roman Cernisev is the first applicant and holds both Moldovan and Israeli citizenships. According to his CV, Cernisev has gained a large amount of experience in the financial-banking sector in Israel.
The second candidate, Vadim Brinzan is currently the founder and main partner of a foreign capital company from Miami, USA. He graduated the Physics Faculty of the Moldovan State University, followed by one of the most famous universities in the world, the Harvard University from Boston.
Four candidates, and namely, Sergiu Coclea, Serghei Melnik, Valeriu Chitan and Victor Timotin applied for the position of BNM governor in the last day of contest.
Cioclea was a former member of the leadership of banking institutions, with a large amount of experience in the management, supervision, commercial development and project management sectors. According to his CV, he is also an economist specializing on emergent markets, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as an expert in fusion, acquisition, reorganization, venture capital and also asset management and administration.
Serghei Melnik is a general consultant in the business field, structuring and preparing shares for financial markets Nuhiband Inc. from USA, with branches in Ireland.
Valeriu Chitan was finance minister during 1994-199. He was appointed as the chairman of the Moldovan Bank Association in 1998-2003. Until March 2010, Chitan was the top-manager of the Lukoil oil company. He is currently a member of the Court of Accounts.
In his CV, Victor Timotin noted that he is a top-manager with a large experience in the field of corporate finances, banking sector, micro financing, capital markets, and public and investor relations. Timotin was the head of the capital market and investors’ relations department, and also a member of the financing committee of the “Orient Express Bank” administration board from Moscow, during 2013-2015.
One of the last candidates to apply for the position was Gheorghe Dimitrov. He worked in financial institutions from Italy, Austria and is currently a business manager, in charge of services and investments performed by UniCredit in Poland, Ukraine and Bulgaria. Another candidate, Sergiu Iachim works as a consultant at Credit Agricole Company, from Louxembourg. Vladimir Munteanu works as an advisor for monetary and foreign exchange operations at a bank in Sudan and is also hired by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a short-term.
The deadline for submitting applications for the position of governor of the National Bank of Moldova expired today at 17:00.
The position has been vacant since last year, when Dorin Dragutanu resigned on grounds of political pressure.
