Moldovan deputy premier meets Ukrainian ambassador

Chisinau, 22 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today had a meeting with Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Ivan Gnatishin, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.  

The ambassador congratulated Gheorghe Balan on his appointment to the office of deputy prime minister for reintegration. The diplomat assured the Moldovan official that Ukraine, as mediator in the negotiating process, would actively contribute to identifying a viable solution to the Transnistrian conflict. In this context, Ivan Gnatishin informed Gheorghe Balan on the appointment of a new representative of Ukraine in the process of negotiations on Transnistrian settlement, Valery Zhovtenko.   

The sides spoke out for advancement of the Moldovan-Ukrainian dialogue at diverse levels and settling the problems on the bilateral agenda in a short period.  

The deputy prime minister thanked the ambassador for the positive message and informed him on the present situation in the settlement process, stressing the need to continue the dialogue within all platforms. Balan pointed out the government’s priorities in promoting the goal of Moldova’s reintegration, assumed by the Moldovan cabinet towards the residents from the eastern districts.    

At the end of the meeting, the Ukrainian ambassador to Moldova thanked for consistent support Moldova was providing to Ukraine and reiterated the inadmissibility to procrastinate the process of talks, expressing Ukraine’s willingness to help enliven the latter.

Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan thanked for the substantive dialogue, noting that Moldova was opened and interested in strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the two states, for the good of the two nations.
