Moldovan government approves activity plan on Memorial Day

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/-Heroes who fought in the Transnistrian armed conflict to defend Moldova’s integrity and independence in 1992, will be commemorated during the Memorial Day on 2 March 2016.
According to the document, flowers will be laid at the monument of Stefan cel Mare medieval ruler, at the Eternity memorial complex and at the graves of the heroes fallen on the battlefield.
“War participants will be awarded prizes. A memorial march along with a rally to commemorate fallen heroes will be held in Chisinau. Families of war heroes and war invalids will receive one-off material aid,” the government’s order reads.
Authorities said there will be carried out activities to “restore and landscape monuments, commemorative plaques and graves of the heroes who died defending Moldova’s independence and integrity,” the document states.
It has been 24 years since the start of the war in Transnistria. In 2010, the Moldovan parliament designated the day of 2 March as the Memorial Day.
According to the Defence Ministry, 287 Moldovan servicemen died in the 1992 Transnistrian war.
