Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/ - A session of the Court of Appeal on the file of the former prime minister, Vlad Filat, planned for today, has been postponed at a request by the lawyers of Filat. The spokeswoman for the aforementioned Court, Octeabrina Popa, confirmed the information for MOLDPRES.
According to Popa, “the session was adjourned for Friday, 26 February, 11:00.”
The Court of Appeal today was to consider an appeal by the lawyers of Vlad Filat on a decision by magistrates of the Buiucani district court of Chisinau from 17 February, when a demand on prosecuting the former Moldovan PM at large was turned down.
Vlad Filat was detained on 15 October 2015, under a warrant issued by the National Anticorruption Centre, after the parliament had ruled to strip Filat off immunity.
On 18 October, the Buiucani district court applied to the former prime minister a warrant of preventive arrest for 30 days; on 11 November and 10 December, judges extended the MP’s arrest by another 30 days. On 5 January, the Buiucani district court ruled to prolong the warrant on the arrest of the former prime minister by another 90 days.
