Moldovan government approves draft law allowing starting criminal proceedings against MP without parliament's agreement

Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a draft law on the amendment of Article 70 from Moldova’s Constitution, which narrow the status of lawmaker, by establishing norms which give possibility of starting criminal proceedings against an MP, without the parliament’s agreement, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
At the same time, the draft law specifies that the enforcement of the aforementioned procedure will be allowed only if the lawmaker is caught in the act of committing an offence, for which the law sees obligatory detention in special flagrant.
The draft was coordinated with all ministries, consulted publicly and placed on the webpage of the Justice Ministry in the column ”transparența decizională” (decision-making transparency). The anti-corruption expertise found out that the document does not attest incompatibilities with the international standards in the field.
The document will be submitted to Constitutional Court for approval and subsequently presented to parliament for consideration.
