Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved amendments and completions to the law on food safety, which establish the legal basis for the development and implementation of the Quick Alert System for Food and Feed (SRAAF), the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The new system will allow notifying and assessing the direct risks on human health, contained in food or feed for animals, and well as informing the residents, order to prevent these risks.
Thus, SRAAF will include a network of communication made up of decision-makers from the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry, Health Ministry, Interior Ministry, Customs Service, Consumers Protection Agency, as well as of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), who will manage the network and represent the national contact point of SRAAF.
Under the document, in case of identifying major risks to human health, animals’ health or the environment, ANSA, on its own initiative, or at a request by another member of the network, will suspend the import, entry, placement, use of food products and feed on the Moldovan market, or will set special conditions for them.
The concerned amendments and completions were adopted in the context of approximating the national legislation to the European one in the food safety field, in line with the commitments taken by Moldova within the Association Agreement with the European Union.
