Moldovan cabinet approves Diaspora-2025 national strategy

Chisinau, 24 February /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved the Diaspora-2025 national strategy, as well as an action plan for 2016-2018 for its enforcement, in order to fulfill the commitments taken by Moldova within the Association Agreement with the European Union, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The strategy contains concrete actions to promote and observe the rights of the Moldovan citizens, no matter the place they are, consolidate the Diaspora of Moldova, by launching programmes, in order to extend the networks of associations and create topic-related connection points.
It is worth mentioning that the government’s action programme for 2016-2018 contains a separate chapter dedicated to the Diaspora, with a string of important goals, among which approval of a national strategy in the field.
In this context, the approved strategy represents a general framework on ensuring the coherence of states’ policies, implementing a common vision of the government on Diaspora.
At the same time, the strategic actions are meant to contribute to enhancing the cooperation between the government, central and local public authorities, civil society of Moldova and Diaspora. The cabinet is set to implement the activities contained in the action plan for the enforcement of the Diaspora-2025 national strategy, with the budgetary support of the development partners.
While developing the strategy, government decision-makers consulted communities of Moldovan from abroad, civil society, academic environment from Moldova, as well as international partners. The strategy’s concept was presented, discussed and accepted by the delegates to the Fourth Congress of the Moldovan Diaspora, held in September 2014.
Moldova has a numerous and diverse Diaspora, settled in over 30 countries. Recent studies show that 520,000 Moldovan citizens are abroad.
