Moldovan education system's problems discussed during news conference at government

Chisinau, 25 February /MOLDPRES/ - Problems of the education system have been discussed during a teleconference held at the government. Participating in the event were representatives of the prime minister’s Office, Education Ministry, Health Ministry, Labour, Social Protection and Family Ministry, as well as of the executive leadership of the Local Public Administration, heads of education departments, managers of education institutions, branch trade unions and parents – members of the administration councils of the education institutions from Moldovan districts, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.   

The participants in the dialogue were set to identify specific problems which limit access to a quality education and possible solutions to overcome them. The discussions were focused on the supply of pupils and students with nourishment, school transport and efficiency of the mechanism of earmarking resources for these services; enrolment ratio, absenteeism and school dropout; needed number of teachers; experience and deficiencies of the work of district schools; capacity of the network of preschool institutions and general education at district level and its evolution in the long run.

At the same time, the participants in the teleconference discussed the impact and efficiency of new models and mechanisms enforced under the Education Code, as well as the need to develop and improve legal norms, ensure access to information on opportunities of participation in projects on institutional development and ensuring quality education, necessity to train staff, in order to develop new competences, needed in the context of decentralization and delegation of duties to local authorities, managers of education institutions.   

The participants in the event welcomed the opportunity to be heard and consulted, possibility to take part in developing new policies and normative acts, by promoting the principle of focusing the latter on local specific needs. The issues set forth at the teleconference will be generalized by a roadmap that will complete the government’s working agenda.
