Chisinau,28 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) informs about a decision by the Hungarian authorities to restrict the traffic and transit of high-tonnage trucks on its territory starting from 1 March 2016, the MAEIE information and media communication service has reported.

According to official information made public by the Border Police of Hungary, the restriction is related to the trucks with a capacity of more than 7.5 tons and will be enforced on the period 1 March - 4 November 2016. The concerned measure  will be valid on Saturdays, Sundays and the national holidays of Hungary (15 March, 20 August and 23 October). Under the decision by the Hungarian authorities, on these days, the drivers of the trucks who have already crossed the Hungarian border will be obliged to stand on specially arranged parkings.

The concerned rule will not be applied to the trucks carrying perishable goods, including fruits, vegetables and products coming from them, chemical products or inflammable ones, as well as to the ones carrying living birds and animals, including cattle and swine.

The Hungarian border and traffic police authorities warn that, starting from 1 March 2016, they will carry out a rigorous control of the observance of the aforementioned restrictions. The motor freight carriers who will violate the provisions of the abovementioned restrictions run the risk of being fined with one million Hungarian forints (about 3,300 euros) and will be banned from entering Hungary for up to five years. In cases of more serious infringements of the concerned stipulations, the freight carriers may be sanctioned including with the arrest of the transport units and the carried goods.
