Moldovan parliament adopts postal communication law in final reading

Chisinau, 17 March /MOLDPRES/- The parliament adopted the postal communications law in final reading with the votes of 56 MPs today.
The draft law is meant to clearly set the rights and obligations of suppliers and users of postal services, by promoting fair competition and contributing to improving the quality of services.
“The decision sees the launch of universal postal service, which creates conditions necessary for a continuous supply of quality postal services at an affordable price to all Moldovan settlements”, the draft law reads.
The document establishes gradual liberalization of the postal services market, giving the economic agents possibility to provide services for transmitting correspondence. “Only the mail service with weight limits of up to 350 grams remains within the competence of the state. The National Agency for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Information Technology will be nominated as regulatory body for the postal sector,” the decision said.
The postal services provider is obliged to carry out the reception, processing of orders for periodical publications, delivering them to subscribers under contract.
The adoption of the postal communications law is fit into the national action plan on implementation of the European Union -Moldova Association Agreement and ensures adjusting the national legislation to the provisions of European quality directives and standards.
