Moldova joins Hague Conference on Private International Law

Chisinau, 17 March /MOLDPRES/-Moldova became the 80th member-state of the Statute of Hague Conference on Private International Law on 16 March. Moldovan Ambassador to Netherlands Emilian Brenici submitted the instrument of acceptance on Moldova’s behalf during the annual meeting of the Conference’s Council on General Affairs and Policy, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
Moldova’s membership of HCCH complies with the commitments it has assumed in the EU Association Agreement, as well as with its interest in actively participating in the unification of international private law norms and enhancing judicial cooperation in a wide range of civic, commercial and family issues.
Moldova is currently part of eight HCCH conventions in the field of international private law civil procedure and judicial cooperation, as well as apostille, children protection and international adoptions.
The Hague Conference on Private International Law is an international organization in the field of codification and unification of international private law norms. The conference aims to regulate international judicial cooperation in civil, commercial and family law, through central authorities appointed by contracting sides. HCCH’s first meeting was held in 1893 and became an international organization in 1955. Currently, HCCH has 81 members: 80 states and the EU. The activity of the organization is coordinated by its standing bureau in Hague.
