Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Pavel Filip was dissatisfied with the fact that the results of the census of Moldovan population and housing held in 2014, have not been made public so far, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.
“The delay in the data processing is unacceptable and shall be recovered. It is our duty to complete all census-related activities as soon as possible. The fact that census results have still not been made public after two years, is unforgivable,” Filip said.
The prime minister asked for a clear and objective assessment of the reasons that caused the postponement of this process. He also asked that the commission’s infringements be exposed and the guilty be punished.
Filip also said that census data is necessary to adequately balance policies and measures taken by the authorities. He also pointed out that the public opinion and entire civil society is highly interested in the data, touching upon the public call of non-governmental organizations for boosting up the publication of Moldova’s 2014 census data.
The prime minister also required that a joint meeting with the participation of NGO representatives and delegates of institutions in charge, be organized next week.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry is going to identify the necessary resources to complete the census. The National Statistics Bureau will prepare the last phase of the data processing, which shall start on 11 April 2016.
