Chisinau, 19 March /MODLPRES/- The EU-Moldova free trade agreement does not create barriers in the commerce with the Commonwealth of Independent States. Moreover, Moldova can become an important trade link between Brussels and Moscow.
Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic made the statements at an economic forum of CIS states held in Moscow on 18 March.
According to the Economics Ministry’s press service, Calmic noted that Moldova was further interested in strengthening and optimizing cooperation with the CIS member states through new forms and mechanisms, adjusted to the current evolutions on international markets.
“For Moldova, cooperation within CIS is the best form of regional policy, which offers both to our country and partners from east and west a long-term platform for actively and coherently implementing the trade goals. Also, Moldova is a favorable space for investments for all the interested sides and is willing to implement ambitious economic projects. Moreover, the EU-Moldova free trade agreement can facilitate the access of the CIS states to the new markets and could generate a quality transformation of CIS”, he said.
In the context, the official pointed out that legally the two agreements could coexist if each of signatory states would maintain independence of trade policy.
In 2016, Kyrgyzstan holds chairmanship within CIS.
