Moldovan deputy premier meets head of International Organisation for Migration mission in Chisinau

Chisinau, 22 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan today met Head of the International Organisation for Migration Mission in Moldova Antonio Polosa, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.   

The officials tackled the work carried out by the IOM Mission in Moldova, including in the context of implementing projects for promoting measures to consolidate trust between residents of the two banks of Dniester.

The sides highlighted the positive results of the enforcement by IOM of the project titled, Supporting the implementation of the migration and development component of the EU-Moldova Mobility Partnership and harnessing its benefits for the residents of the Transnistrian Region of Moldova 2015-2017, financed by the European Union. The project’s goal is to help reduce the social pressure triggered by the consequences of the Transnistrian conflict, as well as of the negative effects of migration.   

Gheorghe Balan and Antonio Polosa exchanged opinions on a string of activities carried out within the project. They emphasized, inter alia, programmes on support promoted for: return of migrants to Moldova; transfer of qualifications though facilitating temporary professional placements for alumni from abroad and returned migrants; enhancement of confidence between the academic and research communities from both banks; providing needed support to socially vulnerable categories from the Transnistrian region, identifying victims of the trafficking of human beings and family violence, people from the risk group and their reintegration into the society, etc.   

The deputy prime minister praised the contribution of the IOM Mission in Moldova to the rapprochement between residents from the two banks, in particular, by implementing humanitarian projects. Balan added that such initiatives must continue, expressing willingness for a prodigious cooperation in the long run.
