Chisinau, 27 March /MOLDPRES/ - Thousands of people participated in a unionist march, occasioned by the 98th anniversary of Bessarabia’s Union with Romania, in Chisinau today.
The participants in the march initially assembled outside the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where they demanded the unification of the two states.
“The Union is inevitable, as this is the will of God; yet, how quickly this will occur depends on us. The reunified country is the best wealth we can leave to our children and the Prut river has never been and must not be a border between the Romanians living here and the Romanians living there,” a member of the initiative group of Sfatul Tarii II (Country Council II), Nicolae Dabija, has said.
“We must leave this place with a single thought – Union is inevitable. We assembled in the heart of Chisinau to make history and we are glad that there are more and more of us, we are stronger and more united,” the coordinator of the National Unity Bloc, Constantin Codreanu, said.
A foundation congress of Sfatul Tarii II took place today as well, during which a Declaration on Bessarabia Union with Romania was adopted. Sfatul Tarii II is to be a collective body, which will develop and propose a string of policies due to lead to preparing Bessarabia’s union with Romania till 2018.
On 27 March 1918, Sfatul Tarii (Country Council) voted Bessarabia’s Union with Romania. On 28 June 1940, Russia annexed Bessarabia again, based on the Ribbentrop-Molotov secret pact.
