Moldovan PM, Russian deputy foreign minister tackle bilateral ties

Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin, on a working visit to Moldova, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The officials discussed the relations between Moldova and Russia, as well as prospects for their development. The sides exchanged opinions on the bilateral agenda and expressed mutual openness for continuing and boosting the Moldovan-Russian contacts in diverse cooperation sectors.
The prime minister said that Moldova spoke out for promoting the Moldovan-Russian partnership, based on trust and mutual respect. Pavel Filip said the present Moldovan government was oriented towards improving the quality of people’s living and voiced Moldova’s interest in bolstering the economic cooperation and giving an impetus to the trade exchanges with Russia. In this context, the prime minister tackled the subject of labour force’s migration and ensuring social protection of the Moldovans who work in Russia.
For his part, Deputy Minister Grigory Karasin said the visits by the high-level officials, recently paid and scheduled for the immediately next period, as well as a decision on the resumption, in the near time, of the work of the intergovernmental joint commission for economic cooperation, represented positive elements in the development of the relations between the two states. The Russian official reiterated Russia’s willingness to strengthen the bilateral dialogue and develop cooperation with Moldova in diverse fields, stressing the importance to ensure stability in Moldova.
At the same time, the sides tackled the subject of Transnistrian settlement. In this context, the officials highlighted the importance of promoting the five-plus-two talks, as well as the negotiations in other formats, in order to ensure an efficient process of settlement of the problems faced by the residents on the two banks of Dniester. Filip and Karasin also discussed the need to foster the cultural and humanitarian ties by carrying out joint projects.
