United Nations to back human rights observance in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Pavel Filip held a meeting with the United Nations Assistant-Secretary General for Human Rights, Ivan Šimonović today. The officials discussed actions the government takes in the human rights field and ways to deepen Moldova’s ties with the UN structures, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.
Filip praised UN’s role and contribution to the enforcement of human rights projects in Moldova, noting that an increase in the insecurity and violation of this fundamental right is being globally recorded. “Ensuring human rights is one of the government action programme’s main priorities for 2016-2018. To this effect, we count on the further support of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights,” Filip said.
For his part, Šimonović reiterated UN’s willingness to help Moldova ensure equal rights, emphasizing the need for a consistent implementation of reforms in this field. He also touched upon the important need for Moldova to observe the commitments it made when singing international agreements in the field, saying that this thing is being monitored within the UN structures.
The sides have also tackled mechanisms used to monitor and assess the observance of human rights and gender equality in Moldova. They also broached the promotion of non-discriminatory values, tolerance in the society and observance of human rights all over Moldova, including in its breakaway Transnistrian region.
