French embassy in Moldova to launch forum on town planning, sustainable development of Chisinau

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Embassy of France in Moldova will launch a forum titled, Town Planning and Sustainable Economic Development of Chisinau, on 18 April, when the International Day of Monuments and Sites is marked. The event will take place on 18-19 April.
The action is organised in partnership with the Chisinau city hall and the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments.
At a today’s news conference, First Counselor of the French Embassy in Moldova, Jeremie Petit, said that a ceremony on signing a France-Moldova bilateral agreement in the patrimony sector would be held at the National Art Museum’s headquarters early on 18 April. Culture Minister Monica Babuc and Ambassador of France to Moldova Pascal Vagogne will sign the document.
The event will be followed by the session of the forum’s opening. Attending the action will be three representatives of public authorities from France: the mayor of Moulins town, Pierre-André Périssol, mayor of the Eldeuf settlement, Djoudé Merabet, and a member of the scientific committee of workshops from Gergy, Delphine Balde.
At the same news conference, Jeremie Petit said the French Embassy, along with the aforementioned two partners, was set to repeatedly turn to good account the public area from Chisinau. It is about the arrangement of the protected zone, pedestrian space – 31 august 1989 street, perimeter including the Stefan cel Mare public garden, from the Maria Cebotari street up to the Pushkin street, as well as the arrangement of the non-protected zone, public space Chisinau circus and the adjacent area of the Renasterii blvd.
The diplomat said that, to this end, a national contest of architecture and town planning had been announced on 3 March, in order to select the best concept in terms of space and planning for protected and non-protected zones, so that, in the long run, the latter be part of the city’s tourism infrastructure and become a worthy and representative space nationally and important at the European level.
Attending the event, the director of the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments, Ion Stefanita, noted that 21 project drafts had been presented at the contest, that were assessed by a Moldovan-French jury. The drafts will be exhibited at the National History Museum on 19 April. The results of the contest will be announced and a ceremony on awarding the winners will take place on the same day.
