Chisinau, 29 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Organisation for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises Sector Development (ODIMM) this year will launch a pilot programme, Women in Business, meant for women from rural zones and those owning businesses. ODIMM director-general Iulia Iabanji made statements to this effect at a today’s meeting of the institution’s Coordination Council, the Economics Ministry’s press service has reported.
According to Iabanji, over 400 women will benefit from opportunities of the programme, which completes the activity of PARE 1+1, Credit Guarantee Fund and National Programme for Youth Economic Empowerment. “The programme provides integrated approach in three stages, in order to back women in business, which regards the needs of developing business at each development stage – support for starting business, backing for newly created business and business on the rise,” Iabanji said.
Referring to ODIMM’s work, the head of the Coordination Council, Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic stressed that the institution had a very important mission, as through the projects managed, it contributed to the enhancement of the performance and level of competitiveness of the small- and medium-sized enterprises’ sector.
“Presently, the small-and medium-sized enterprises of Moldova account for 97 per cent of all the enterprises; yet, the economic efficiency, in comparison with the other states, is relatively low, generating a volume of sales of almost 32 per cent of overall incomes on the economy. Proceeding from this situation, we conclude that this sector remains vulnerable to the uncertainties of the economic and political environment. Therefore, one of ODIMM’s priorities should be providing multidimensional support for these enterprises, in order to enhance their performances and competitiveness level,” Minister Octavian Calmic added.
