United States to back Moldova in implementing reforms

Chisinau, 3 May /MOLDPRES/- The United States will back Moldova in implementing reforms. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland has made statements to this effect at a meeting with the first deputy leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, on a working visit to the USA.

According to PDM’s press service, the American official highlighted the results achieved by the ruling coalition from Moldova during the first months of activity, pointing out the need that the government acts consistently on the way of reforms. “Continue in this pace and we will back you”, Nuland said.

Victoria Nuland informed that the U.S. Department of State was willing to send a group of experts in the key sectors to Chisinau, in order to assist the government in implementing the reform measures, it had committed to. 

Vladimir Plahotniuc conveyed a message of the ruling coalition on its political determination to carry out reforms necessary for ensuring the country's stability. “I convey my full commitment and the one of the Moldovan parliamentary majority to reform the state institutions. We are determined to do everything is needed for Moldova to advance really and substantively in the economic and social sectors, in order to ensure a prosperous future”, he said.

The PDM first deputy leader is on a working visit to the USA, at an invitation by the Atlantic Council. Plahotniuc has earlier met more specialists of the organization, with whom he discussed economic measures and reforms assumed by the Moldovan government.

The visit will continue with meetings at other important institutions from the USA, meetings with representatives of the civil society, potential investors, as well as with participation, as a guest, in the most important annual event of the Atlantic Council, Distinguished Leadership Awards. Leaders in politics, business, art and humanitarian activities, who distinguished themselves in promoting relations between Europe and the United States, are honoured at the event.
