European Town inaugurated in Chisinau

Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Town was inaugurated in the Stefan cel Mare public garden today, in the context of marking the Europe Day. The event was organised with the support of the European Union Delegation to Moldova.
Attending the event’s inauguration were President Nicolae Timofti, Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola, as well as the ambassadors of the EU member states.
“I affirm with a natural pride that Moldova is one of the states with European vocation and aspirations, and I would like to be the last president of the country ahead of Moldova getting the status of state candidate for the European Union,” President Nicolae Timofti said.
În context, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said the European project had become an example of peaceful cooperation worldwide. “Moldova is very close to the European family. As in any family, the relations between our countries are based on common values, mutual trust and honest dialogue. The people from Moldova may look at EU as at an example where the observance of the rules makes development possible,” Tapiola noted.
For his part, Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca was happy that this event had been organised in the Moldovan capital for more years in a row. “We should understand that Europe means a better life, based on values, and represents the strongest economy, we can be part of,” Chirtoaca added.
A musical show, organised with the support of the embassies of European countries accredited in Chisinau, and with participation of students from the Academy of Theatre, Music and Fine Arts, was performed within the event. In the tents set in the European Town, representatives of the embassies of the EU member states informed citizens about European assistance projects, displayed their dishes, culture and specific of the country. Also today starting from 21:00, Moldovan stars will give a concert and the live broadcasting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 will be organised.
The European Town is organised in Chisinau for the eighth time in a row, in the context of marking the Europe Day. This holiday represents one of the European symbols meant to promote unity and peace among the Europeans.
