Visegrad Group countries Film Day inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Visegrad Group countries Film Day opened in the European Town from the Stefan cel Mare public garden of Chisinau today. The Visegrad Groups is made up of four countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland.  

The event was organised at an initiative by the Czech Embassy in Moldova, and takes place within the European Culture Festival, held in Chisinau on 15-20 May. Four movies will be screened during the day – one from each country.  

Attending the event were Czech Ambassador to Moldova Zdeněk Krejci, Hungarian Ambassador Mátyás Szilagyi, Slovakian Ambassador Robert Kirnag and Minister Adviser of the Polish Embassy Jerzy Stankiewicz.

In his speech, Czech Ambassador to Moldova Zdeněk Krejci said that the four countries cooperated not only in the political sector, but also in the cultural one. The diplomat stressed that the leaders of the aforementioned four countries had met for the first time in 1991, when the Visegrad countries Group was founded.    

Ambassador Mátyás Szilagyi said that the name Visegrad was symbolical for his country, as this town from the Pest county of Hungary had the historical role, where the foundations of a close regional cooperation were laid.  

“Among the goals of common interest of these states, there is the sharing of cultural and intellectual values. This year, the countries of the Visegrad Group accredited in Chisinau will share with you movies showing the development of cinematography in our countries,” the Hungarian official added.  

Diplomats from the embassies of Slovakia and Poland gave greeting speeches too.

Twenty films from 15 countries will be screened at the European Culture Festival.
