Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - Private persons (resident and non-resident) received an equivalent sum of 102 million dollars through banks of Moldova in last April, by almost two per cent less than on the same period of 2015. This the highest level of 2016, yet far from the sums recorded in the years before the crisis, according to data by the National Bank of Moldova (BNM).
The value of money transfers to private people follows a trend of increase from the last year and in April reached the maximal level of 2016, after the gross remittances had amounted to 65 million dollars in last January. In the first four months of this year, financial means worth 354 million dollars were transferred through Moldovan banks, by 18 million less against the same period of 2015.
The sums are recalculated from the original currency of the transfer in U.S. dollars at BNM’s official exchange rate on the date of carrying out the transfer. It is worth mentioning that both the origin and the purpose of these sums may be different. They include, besides the remittances of the Moldovan migrants working abroad, also other currency transfers.
According to the National Statistics Bureau, “the money transfers from abroad remain a significant source for households’ budget. On average, these transfers accounted for 17.4 per cent of all the incomes in 2015, or by 0.2 percentage points less against 2014.”
