Chisinau, 2 June /MOLDPRES/-The parliament today adopted a draft law providing for Moldova’s adherence to the Convention on the Elaboration of a European Pharmacopoeia.
The document aims to harmonize the national legislation in the field of medicine fabrication, distribution and movement, in accordance with the rigors promoted by the Council of Europe, which will ensure a guaranteed quality of the medication.
“The European Pharmacopoeia refers to qualitative and quantitative composition of medication and raw materials used to produce medication and synthetic intermediates, as well as tests controlling and ensuring their quality. Thus, all medication manufacturers and/or pharmaceutical substances should implement these quality standards, in order to promote their products on the markets of the countries that have signed the Convention,” the draft law reads.
“Moldova’s adherence to the Convention will allow national producers to distribute their products in countries that are part of the European Pharmacopoeia. Also, the quality of Moldovan medication will be recognized and accepted on the EU pharmaceutical market,” the draft reads.
The document sees that the Health Ministry and the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (AMED) are to be in charge of the convention’s provisions. After joining the convention, Moldova will have to pay an annual contribution of 5,669 euros, allotted by AMED.
The document will enter into force for an indefinite period three months after lodging the ratification or accepting tool.
The Convention on the Elaboration of a European Pharmacopoeia was adopted in Strasbourg in 1964 and entered into force in 1974, being currently ratified by 37 member-states of the Council of Europe.
