Heavy rains cause serious damages in southern Moldova

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/- Dozens of households from Ceadir-Lunga town, southern Moldova, were hit by heavy rains on 13 June. According to authorities from Gagauz-Yeri, houses, cellars and gardens were flooded, five houses were destroyed, and 21 people were evacuated.
Teams of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service (SPCSE) have been in Ceadir-Lunga on the spot so far. Over 40 rescuers and firemen, special vehicles and motor pumps, forces of subdivisions from Ceadir-Lunga, Comrat and Cahul were involved in actions of evacuation, water pumping and other measures for removing the consequences of the rain. The situation will be monitored until full liquidation of the consequences by the SPCSE leadership.
According to the latest operative information by SPCSE, over 50 households of the private sector have been affected by the heavy rains.
The water level reached 1 m and more in some households. Evacuated people, including four children, were accommodated in a health centre and at relatives. Today morning, town services got involved in works to liquidate the flood's consequences, and public order is maintained by the territorial police inspectorate.
Today at 15:00, the emergencies commission of the autonomy is to hold a meeting, in order to make a preliminary report on the damages inflicted by the rains.
Data by the State Hydrometeorlogical Service show that, on 13 June evening, about 69 mm of rainfall was recorded at the Ceadir-Lunga-based meteorological observation station in only two hours, which represented the norm for almost 1.5 months.
