Memorial complex dedicated to political repressions' victims inaugurated in Moldova

Chisinau, 6 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today attended the inauguration of a memorial complex dedicated to the victims of political repressions from the Causeni district, south-eastern Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
The action was organized including in the context of the Stalinism Victims Day, established by parliament decision No 433-XII from 22 December 1990.
In his speech, the head of state said that, “by fully assuming the past, we keep alive the memory of the defining moments for the history of a state. In this respect, the event fit into the desiderata stimulated in the decree on Stalinism Victims Commemoration Day, signed on 1 July 2016.
Also, at 10:00, under the same decree, the memory of those who experienced the ordeal of deportations was kept by standing still for a minute.
President Timofti made reference to the tragic consequences of the deportations on the native population and highlighted their effects, immediate and long-term, which had been both large-scale.
In the end, the Moldovan president voiced hope that such tragic moments would never repeat.
