Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan citizens staying abroad will be able to participate in the presidential elections due on 30 October 2016 only at polling stations, not also on line, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) said today.
According to the CEC press service, the persons who will be abroad on the election day and intend to vote, have possibility only to pre-register on line. “The main goal of the procedure is to identify the major concentrations of voters, in order to set up additional polling stations, besides those opened at diplomatic missions and consular offices,” the CEC press service noted.
Under the procedure, the citizens who have pre-registered will be automatically erased from the basic electoral list, according to the place of residence in Moldova. This erasing will be temporary and will be valid only for the presidential elections due this year. “After the registration period is over, the information on the number of citizens who have pre-registered will be submitted to government, in order to take a decision on the need to open supplementary polling stations,” the quoted source said.
At the same time, the persons who will be abroad on the day of the polls, and who failed to pre-register on different grounds, will be able to exercise their right to vote by coming to any polling station set up outside Moldova.
