In vitro fertilization to be free of charge for insured pairs in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - The in vitro fertilization will be free of charge for the insured pairs, according to amendments to the legislation on reproductive health, passed by parliament in the first reading today.
The new provisions will allow pairs, in which both partners are insured, to benefit from an in vitro fertilization, covered by a mandatory health insurance.
The amendments proposed give possibility to pairs with no enough financial resources, but who are capable from the medical viewpoint, to benefit from the services of assisted human reproduction. At the same time, the draft implies enhancing the attractiveness of the mandatory health insurance and observance of tax payers’ rights in terms of access to the in vitro fertilization service.
The parliament’s commission for social protection, health and family, at the parliament’s meeting, proposed that the law enters into force starting from 1 January 2017. “Meanwhile, the Health Ministry will work out regulations on selection of beneficiaries,” the head of the aforementioned commission,
Estimative data shows that about 140,000 pairs (20 per cent) suffer from one or another form of infertility. At the same time, a tendency of reduction of the residents’ total fertility rate has been recorded in the last years.
